Sunsets in the Kavango are always spectacular, especially when viewed from the top of the water tower in the village. – Mahahe, Namibia

Mid-2018, I felt the call to pack up life as I knew it, and I set off on the adventure now known as run wild live free.

This adventure set off by travelling to Israel, Jordan and Egypt, experiencing the sights and sounds and smells and people of the Promised Land.

Shortly after, my backpack and I made our way to Namibia, where I spent a month in Mahahe, a small village outside of Rundu, on the Kavango River. A 2km walk brings you to the river, where Angola is a stone’s throw away.

My time in Mahahe taught me a lot about rural living, the value of friendships, and challenged me to find new ways in which to reach and impact culture. One of the things I realized, was that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to problem-solving in areas where English was not widely spoken, where Malaria is part of every day life, where famine and poverty are not foreign concepts, and where family is an essential part of community living.

Next, I traveled through Botswana and Zimbabwe to make my second visit to Zambia. Crossing over the Victoria Falls border post is always a treat, and it’s spectacular, even when it’s not the rainy season.

In Zambia, I spent some time visiting friends in Livingstone and connected with Overland Missions. In May this year, I’ll return to Rapid 14, and it’ll be my home until September, when the next part of this amazing journey will kick off.
